Newborn Sessions

welcome to the world!

We have the pleasure of working with around 70 brand new babies each year, and have photographed over 500 babies so far – and we absolutely love it! As we mentioned before, these are our favourite sessions, despite them being the longest, hottest and hardest to edit. We are also most likely to end up going home covered in wee and poo too! The perks of a Newborn Photographer!

But who can’t fall in love with those adorable chubby cheeks, wiggly toes and tufts of soft hair, or the way they look at you in fascination as they are trying to figure out the world.
Your Newborn Session ideally needs to take place within the first 21 days after birth. There are many reasons for this; Newborn babies change so quickly, so to really capture that newborn state, the earlier your shoot takes place the better. As they pass the 3-week mark, they start to stretch out more, and aren’t as keen on many of the poses we put them in to. We also find that your little one really starts to wake up after the first couple of weeks, which makes many of the poses not possible to do.

As well as capturing your new little bundle, we can also spend some time getting some lovely family shots with Mum and Dad, and we are always happy to include any older brothers or sisters in the session – or even the dog, as they are a big part of your family too! If older siblings are school aged, we usually split your Newborn Session into 2 separate photo shoots (no extra charge!). Your main Newborn Sessions would take place on a weekday within the first 21 days of your little one arriving. We would then book you all back in at the next available weekend or after school session to get the family and sibling shots.

We understand that the first few weeks with a new baby can be a very stressful and tiring time, so take this opportunity to sit back and relax for a couple of hours with a lovely hot cup of tea of coffee. It’s not unknown for the Dads to even take a short nap during the session!

What happens in a Newborn Photo Session…

When you arrive for your Newborn Baby Photo Shoot, you will notice that the studio is very warm! Because baby is naked for much of the session, we need to make sure it’s nice and toasty  – so you might want to wear layers to stay cool! At the start of your session, we will discuss some colour options with you, and try to make sure we use a range of colours you love and we will also take a look at any items you would like to incorporate within your session.

No two Newborn Sessions go the same and they are completely led by baby! We will have a range of props and setups ready in our minds, but we go with the flow with how baby is feeling on the day. We will flow from each prop and set depending on how sleepy baby is, and also get your family photos too if you would like them.
Sometimes your little one will need multiple feeds throughout their session, so there is often a lot of sitting around and chatting in the session, and if this happens don’t worry. We are used to this, and all babies will go through a little fussy stage, the whole session isn’t sleepy baby poses! We just sit back relax, and then baby will too.
You are more than welcome to request any specific poses or shots – however, we can’t always guarantee to be able to get them. Different babies are happy to go into different poses, and the last thing we want to do is upset your little one trying to get them into a pose they aren’t keen on.

Our Newborn Photo Shoots can last up to around 3 hours, which can be a long time for toddlers. There will be times during the sessions where one of you could take them out for a stroll around the area though and have a look at the cows and sheep in the fields and we would recommend bringing along some toys/gadgets to keep them entertained, as well as some snacks! (we have Wifi!)
